Gatekeeping vs Growing Together

Planner Fam,

Let’s talk about something that lives in our community.

Gatekeeping.

Yes. The cute spreads. The secret sticker sources. The paper brand that does not ghost. The pen that never smears. The layout that changed your whole life.

Some people hold that info tight like it is the last roll of washi on earth.

And sometimes I get it.

There are creators using The Happy Planner who spend hours building custom layouts. There are junk journal queens sourcing vintage ephemera from tiny shops on Etsy at 2 am. We test things. We waste money. We try again.

So a part of you thinks
Why should I just give it away

But here is the truth.

When you share knowledge
You do not shrink
You multiply

🖤 When Gatekeeping Is Actually Good

Let’s be real. Not all gatekeeping is toxic.

Sometimes you protect your peace.

You do not owe everyone your vendor list.
You do not owe anyone your private printer settings.
You do not owe access to your personal story just because someone asked.

Healthy boundaries are not hate.

Protecting your mental health is not selfish.

Guarding something sacred until it is time is wisdom.

That is grown energy.

🚫 When Gatekeeping Gets Toxic

Now let’s talk about the other side.

Toxic gatekeeping sounds like this

I cannot tell you where I got it
I cannot say what paper this is
I figured it out myself so you should too

That is fear talking.

And fear does not belong in a creative space.

The planner and junk journaling world grows from inspiration. We flip through spreads. We zoom in on dashboards. We screenshot layouts. We learn from each other.

If someone taught you layering
If someone showed you blackout planning
If someone shared the name of that life changing pen

Then somebody shared first.

You are building on someone’s courage.

🖤 From My Heart As A Creator

As a content creator I have always tried to share as much as I could.

I have always tried to help others grow.

That is something I tried to do inside my Planner Vida PR Team. I wanted it to feel safe. I wanted it to feel open. I wanted it to feel like we were building together.

If one of us made a team
We all celebrated.

If one person got a promotion
We all celebrated.

If someone hit a milestone
We all clapped loud.

Because to me that is what a real community does. That is what real friends do.

You win bestie
We won

There was no weird energy. No silent jealousy. No back turned applause.

Just support.

Because there is room.

And if your friend shines it does not dim you.

It proves it is possible.

This section is where we celebrate sharing.

This week we spotlight the creators who drops tips and hacks and always sharing knowledge . The junk planner who tell you exactly how algorithm is helping you or not. The planner friend who answers DMs with kindness instead of ego.

You know the one.

They link the shop.
They tag the brand.
They tell you the disc size.

That is a real planner bestie!

Sharing does not make you less original.

It makes you trusted.

And trust builds legacy

I started planning back in high school with a small pocket planner, and for many years I only used it to track my monthly bills, never the weekly layouts.

In 2021, while scrolling on Facebook, I discovered sticker dolls that looked like me, which led me to Capitol Chic Designs at Michael’s. One in-store pickup quickly turned into many trips, and soon after I found the planner community through Facebook groups. In January 2021, I created my Instagram @nayloves2plan, and officially joined the planner world.

My favorite planner items are sticker dolls, floral stickers, and quote stickers, they’re a must in all my spreads.

My favorite quote is “Make your heart the prettiest thing about you.” I love the color pink and anything leopard print.

I started out as #TeamVertical, but switched to #TeamDashboard two years ago and haven’t looked back.

Planning became a creative and therapeutic outlet for me during a challenging time in my life. The planner community welcomed me with open arms, and I’m grateful for the kindness and support I received. I now try to give back in the same way and help foster the sense of community that makes this space so special. I’m truly honored to be a part of it.
